ILLINOIS LIBRARY DAY
STRONG LIBRARIES = A STRONG ILLINOIS!
APRIL 10, 2008

I heart LIBRARIES AND I VOTE!

SCHEDULE AND LOGISTICS 2008

ARRIVAL

  • Please stop by the Illinois State Library (ISL) between 8:00am and 11:15am on Thursday morning to pick up Palm Cards for your legislators and any other last minute information that might be available. Additional umbrellas will be available at this time as well.

LEGISLATIVE VISITS

  • Once you have picked up your packet and gotten your bearings, now would be a good time to head across the street to the State Capitol to meet with your legislator. When you get to the Capitol, you will need to pass through a security clearance. Make certain you have some form of photo identification to show security personnel at the doors. There will be a daily schedule of events letting you know where your Legislator may be located. This schedule is put out daily during the Legislative session, so there is no way to know where your legislator will be until that morning. If you are not sure who your Legislator is, please check http://tinyurl.com/9m8ok. Insert your zip code, hit "go", then provide your home address to determine your Illinois State Senator and State Representative.
  • Some visits are being pre-arranged through your Library System, so you'll want to check with them first.

GATHERING AT THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

  • By 11:15am, weather permitting, you will need to head over to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum at 112 N. Sixth St., about a half mile from the Capitol Complex.

THE MARCH AND RALLY

  • Beginning at 11:40am, marchers will head south on 6th street to Capitol Avenue, where you will turn right and head west to the Lincoln Statue on the east steps of the State Capitol.
  • If you are unable to participate in the march, or would prefer to meet up with the marchers closer to the rally site, you can wait in the ISL Atrium.

  • The rally will begin at 12:00pm in front of the Lincoln Statue and will end between 12:30pm and 12:45pm.

Be vocal and enthusiastic! We want lawmakers and others to know we are united in our support of libraries! If you already have an "I heart libraries" umbrella, please be sure to bring it that day and proudly display it!

LUNCH

  • Prepaid box lunches and seating will be available in the ISL Atrium from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
