The Danville Public Library will turn off its four public Internet computers during May 14. Signs will be posted informing people of the features of HB1727 and the challenges they will mean for our library. We will have a demonstration copy of CyberPatrol filtering software loaded onto a stand-alone computer and available for patrons to try. We'll have contact information for our Senator and the members of the Rules Committee. We'll keep issuing updates on the bill so our patrons will continue to be informed throughout the process.

Flora Public Library will be denying access to the library's Internet computers on May 14, as part of "A Day of Unity in Illinois Libraries". A letter with details about HB1727 will be given to patrons, as well as contact information for Senators. The library director has emailed or faxed all Senators on the committee and our Senator. Library board members will be contacting all of the Senators also. The library will be providing free fax service to anyone that wishes to fax a letter concerning HB1727.

Dear Illinois Librarians, I know you are all good and caring people. Your Illinois LIbrary Association, however, is misleading you regarding HB1727. To see another side of the picture, please read my article entitled, "Open Letter to Illinois Legislators RE: HB 1727 and ILA Misinformation" linked at the top of my group's web site. Especially read the links, including ACLU v. Gonzales where even the ACLU's own expert argues Internet filters are about 95% and no longer block out health-related information. So I am participating in the Day of Unity by providing necessary information. Thank you.

The Brookfield Public Library is turning off access to the Internet on Monday, May 14. We have posted "A Day of Unity in Illinois Libraries" flyers that both explains the proposed legislation and urges residents to contact their Senators to express opposition. Throughout the day, we will make form letters in opposition to the legislation available for our users and we will conduct demonstrations of how filters block legitimate material on the Internet. Computer workshops scheduled on May 14 have been cancelled and rescheduled.

We will distribute informational flyers to patrons beginning May 14 that ask them to protect their Internet access by contacting President Jones and their state Senator Todd Sieben. I have faxed a letter and sent an e-mail to President Jones asking him to hold the bill. I have written to Senator Sieben. I will encourage my Board of Trustees to at least call Senator Sieben and President Jones.
